Frozen Lab Meh Review

If you live near Espana Avenue or pass along it on your way home, you won't immediately notice this place. I sure as hell did not even though I've lived there for how many years. Not until my sister told me there's a new hang out place where me and my friends can chill especially in this blistering summer heat. They advertise themselves using a tarpaulin. The walls were designed with abstract details I found out of place. Located at the second  floor of a two storey building, Frozen Lab boasts of their nitrogen ice cream and their home made milkshakes.

One of the abstract designs done in their wall. What do you think?

Before I give any review about their ice cream, I would just like to give an honest critique about the people in charge of the place. Upon entering, me and my boyfriend noticed that the music is on full blast. We then approached the counter to order but what greeted us was two people making out. They may not have heard us come in because of the loud music. I immediately turned around to let themselves be composed and let my boyfriend do the ordering instead. To be honest, I lost my appetite for desert that time. Enough about that experience, I'll let you in on my review about their product. (At the back of my mind, I was hoping they washed their hands, you know!)

Slut shaming you both!

The place uses a purplish blue light so as to emit a cool and icy feel (due to nitrogen perhaps?) but the place is not so cold itself. The chairs and tables are simple. Not rave worthy though. My boyfriend tried ordering their milkshake but unfortunately, it is not available. He ended up ordering two bowls of nitrogen ice cream which are Peach and Cookies and Cream flavored. I noticed that the preparation involved a lot of nitrogen and the place was filled with nitrogen gas for a sec. In no time, the bowls per served to us.  Upon taking a spoonful, I noticed that the ice cream, which was priced at 140php per bowl, is not that worth raving, Nothing special here. If I were to compare the cookies and cream and the peach, the cookies and cream would just be a notch higher and that is only because it has chocolate chips on it. The peach ice cream is not worth ordering. It doesn't even taste peach to begin with. We just finished it off because we want to atleast get what we paid for.

Cookies and Cream ice cream.

The most disappointing desert and is supposed to be my most favorite flavor, their Peach ice cream.

I don't know if we'll still go back for their milkshake since their ice cream is pretty disappointing and it is always out of stock. And to top it off, this is my first nitrogen ice cream. I suppose this place is for those people near Espana seeking somewhere to chill out  and does not have a high standard when it comes to ice cream.

The verdict:

Place- 3/5 The walls can do better.

Food- 2/5 Nitrogen ice cream needs a lot of improvement and should they still put the milkshake on their menu even if it's always out of stock?

Service- 3/5 After their freak show, what do they expect?

New kid in Town! Ramen Cool @ SM Manila

Sorry for the long wait! I've been necessarily occupied for a couple of weeks. I've been meaning to post something soon but I also would want to post something that would redeem me back to you guys. So, I present to you, Ramen Cool.

Ramen Cool's menu

That time, I was really looking forward to eating at Red Table since I wanted something spicy. But I just couldn't resist anything Japanese. Especially if it's new and their sign specifically says Ramen. So, I go in and try what they offer. The place can easily be described as modern Japanese.

Love the interiors <3

I immediately settled myself to a nice corner nook and the waitress handed me their menu. I am immediately drawn to it. Before I know it, I am browsing off to their well detailed menu and was already feeling giddy because they all look oishii. I settled for Nabeyaki Ramen since the waitress said it was one of their best sellers, an order of Hiyashi Chuka Ramen and their highly coveted California love maki. For my drink I chose their Cool Mango. And it is also worth noting that the waitress was kind enough to answer all my queries.

The service was pretty fast. It took around ten minutes for the whole set to arrive. First came my California love maki. It consisted of eight California maki's with a twist: lots of Kani on top! I immediately went on to make my dipping sauce when I noticed something new.

This photo cannot even do justice to how I enjoyed this appetizer

They have this spice called Tongarashi. I did a little research since that was the first time I encountered it. According to http://www.thekitchn.com/shichimi-togarashi-191405, Togarashi was originally sold by herbal medicine shops in the 17th century, shichimi togarashi (literally "seven flavor chile pepper") is a spicy-savory blend of coarsely ground chilies plus varying ingredients depending on the region, manufacturer, and cook. Some Japanese vendors even offer custom blends.

Tongarashi spice next to the toothpicks.

I then tasted the Hiyashi Chuka Ramen. The noodles were indeed cold and the broth (or sauce?) used was sweet. This is indeed a nice treat for summer.

Highly recommended.

The Nabeyaki Ramen was a sight to behold. It was served in a huge bowl good enough for three! They didn't scrimp on the sides as the dish itself is filled to the brim.

Nabe-yummy!

I'll admit I had a hard time consuming all of these and I call myself a die hard fan of anything Japanese lol! The price wasn't hard on my wallet either as the bill only totalled to 800plus pesos. Not bad for a meal that can satisfy four people.

The verdict:

Place- 5/5 I love the interiors. So modern Japanesque!

Food- 5/5 Bang for the buck. Big time.

Service- 5/5 The staff were friendly and prompt. They assisted me with everything I need. No complaints here!

So again, if you are near SM Manila and is craving for Japanese. Stop by Ramen Cool located at the 4th floor. Cheers!
